To the moon and over the moon. Pursuing moonbeams and moon walks. In the aftermath of World War II, America’s romantic notions of the reaches of space, along with a fear that the Soviets might get there first, create a nationwide lust for space flight that is satisfied by rocket science. German rocketeers, men who learned their craft designing weapons for the Nazis, men like Arthur Rudolph and Wernher von Braun, are brought to the US to become citizens and eventually heroes as they help both land astronauts on the moon and create Disney’s Tomorrowland. A fascinating tapestry of human brilliance and brutality, culminating in the 1969 lift-off of Apollo 11 and a man on the moon.

Reunions in 1992 and 2000 rekindled the group's energy, but that wasn't enough. This long standing "family" had to gets it new music out to a larger public once again. This CD is the result and powerful evidence that the group is back - stronger than ever!

Earth Dance reflects strong Brazilian, Jazz, and World Music influences due largely to my travels and performances with so many wonderful musicians like Jorge Strunz, Airto, Steve Kujala, Ricardo Silviera and Junior Homrich.

Earth Dance could not have been created without the support of executive Producer Richard Buxton "the Wiz" who underwrote the album. He helped me make the environment comfortable and "simpatico" and a place where the music could come alive. His support allowed me to take the time to mix and finish the album to a high degree.

The album was recorded at Sound Design Studios in Santa Barbara, California. The project started in July 1989 and was completed in February of 1990. Although the over all project took eight months to complete the majority of the recording took place during the period of one week with an additional week to complete the mix. Daniel Protheroe recorded most of the tracks. Dom Camardella, who co-produced the album, also recorded many of the overdubs. William Aura, Dom, and I did the mixing.

I was very fortunate to have the participation of so many talented musicians on my album. Their energy and spontaneity is well documented in the music. Many of the performances were first takes, like Steve Kujala's incredible flute solo at the end of "Caravan of Dreams", Gary Meek's stellar playing on "Inamorata", and Jorge Strunz's mind blowing solo on the opening cut "Passage". I also have to mention Jeff Elliott's lyrical phrasing and Charlie Bisharat's exquisite performances on "Beyond this Day" and "Caravan of Dreams". I am more than grateful to my mentor John Harmon who contributed the signature horn arrangement for "Earth Dance" featuring the horn players from Matrix.

The release of the album came one day after the birth of my daughter and was celebrated with a sold-out release concert at the Center Stage Theater in Santa Barbara.
