Equipment
Randy currently performs and records with a variety of instruments and equipment. For jazz and Latin jazz sets he plays a Warwick Streamer 5 and 6 string fretted and 5 string fretless basses, a Pedulla 5-string fretless, and a one-of-a-kind handmade acoustic 4-string fretless made by John Hawk. The John Hawk bass was configured by Kevin Beller, of Seymour Duncan, with a preamp to blend bridge and contact microphone pickup to generate a very organic warm acoustic sound. The instrument is also used for bluegrass and flamenco sets. For R&B sets Randy performs with a Fender Precision 4-string bass configured with a jazz bass pickup in the bridge pickup location.
Randy also owns, records and performs with a number of other basses; Warwick Alien Acoustic, German double bass, Warwick 6-string streamer I, custom Pat Raftery 5-string, and multiple others...For live performances he uses a Warwick Quad VI amplifier head with Warwick 2-10" and 4-10" speaker cabinets. He often uses an Avalon direct box for recording.
Randy uses Warwick Black label strings on his Warwick basses and DR Hi-Beam strings on most of his other instruments.
